Dear Ayrshire Skincare Family,

Your Skin Doesn’t Read the Label. But You Should.

And why is this?

Because what’s inside your cleanser matters rather more than what’s promised on the front.

“Purifying, Deep Clean, and Fresh.” Words we’ve all seen a thousand times. After a while, they tell you very little.

Face cleanser bottles are full of promises, but turn the bottle around and you’ll find something far more interesting: the ingredient list.

Clean isn’t a feeling, it’s a formula.

But it shouldn’t simply be a collection of ingredients borrowed from a hundred other formulas. The formulation should reflect the thinking of the company that makes it.

Not because every unfamiliar ingredient is something to worry about. Quite the opposite. We believe you have a right to know what you’re putting on your skin — and why the ingredient list matters more than the promise on the front of the bottle.

So, what’s actually in most face cleansers?

Many conventional cleansers are formulated to create a rich lather and that familiar “squeaky clean” feeling. But squeaky clean isn’t necessarily what your skin needs.

Ingredients such as sulphates can be very effective cleansers, but for some people — particularly those with dry, mature or sensitive skin — they can leave the skin feeling tight or uncomfortable.

Synthetic fragrance can also be a concern for people with sensitive skin. And “parfum” doesn’t tell you exactly which fragrance ingredients are being used.

And what do we do?

Our Restorative Face Cream Cleanser for Sensitive Skin starts with the question:

What does skin need from a cleanser?

It needs to remove make-up, SPF and daily grime, and it needs to do it without leaving the skin feeling stripped.

So, taking all of this into consideration, here’s what’s actually in our formula:

  • Aqua (Water) – the base of the formula.
  • Glycerin – a humectant that helps attract and retain moisture.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate – a form of hyaluronic acid that helps support skin hydration.
  • Argan Oil & Sweet Almond Oil – plant oils that help soften and condition the skin.
  • Grapeseed Oil – a lightweight plant oil.
  • Cetyl Alcohol – a fatty alcohol used to give the cleanser its creamy texture. Not the drying type of alcohol.
  • Xanthan Gum & Locust Bean Gum – plant-derived ingredients that help give the cleanser its consistency.
  • Decyl Glucoside – a mild cleansing agent that helps lift away dirt and impurities.
  • Sodium Benzoate & Potassium Sorbate – preservatives that help keep the product safe and stable.
  • Ylang Ylang & Orange Peel Oil – essential oils providing the cleanser’s natural fragrance.

Our simple, sensible list, where every ingredient has a job to do. Nothing added that doesn’t need to be there.

And why does that matter?

Cleansing shouldn’t leave your skin feeling as though you’ve removed everything — including the natural oils your skin needs to stay comfortable and balanced.

Rather, our cream cleanser is designed to cleanse gently. Nothing harsh in this. Then we put back what we believe belongs there: oils and humectants that help leave skin feeling comfortable and conditioned.

Important: Because we use essential oils for fragrance rather than a generic “parfum” declaration, we’re transparent about the naturally occurring fragrance allergens they contain.

We don’t hide behind the word “fragrance”.

In essence, we think skincare should be simpler

You don’t need to understand every scientific name on a skincare label. But we think you should be able to ask:

What is it?

Why is it there?

And does my skin actually need it?

And yes, our cleanser is made here in Scotland, in small batches, using ingredients we can trace.

Because when it comes to something you put on your skin every day, we think knowing what’s in it matters.

Best wishes from Jim and the team at Ayrshire Skincare
