Dear Ayrshire Skincare Family,
The journey: Moss-Grove to Ayrshire Skincare
Some of you have asked why we changed our company name, and I thought that it would make sense to write an explanation.
In the beginning: In 2008, my wife and I worked in our back-pain clinic in Glasgow. We had been there since 2000. Then, under the brand name Moss-Grove Natural Products, we started to sell just one invention (Joint Ease). In those days, the Internet was in its infancy, and so were we as a company using it. I didn’t realise that nobody when searching would ever look for a hyphen in a name. So, the numbers of people who found us on-line was small. Basically, we survived by word of mouth. Original names for skincare companies are hard to find, especially when looking for domain-name (.com, or .co.uk), However, in time we managed to find the inventive name SkinLikes. Sales continued to grow as the company became established, and everything was great until Covid-19 came along and destroyed the entirety of all we had built. 90+% of our customers vanished.

After the Pandemic: Once the pandemic dust had settled, some of our existing customers began to find us, and we decided to start trading again. It was my idea to name the company Essence of Egypt. I did it because we use essential oils in every product we manufacture, and the use of these oils goes back to Egyptian times. But I was completely wrong. Sales did not materialise as we had expected, no matter how hard we tried.
Towards the end of 2025, I made an approach to my local council asking for professional help. They kindly gave me access to a digital advertising expert. He explained that the name was wrong. It didn’t reflect the type of products that we manufactured, nor the fact that we were based in Ayrshire (west of Scotland) where the air is pure, and the water is clean. His suggestion was that we should consult with our customers to find another name that reflected all of this.
Ayrshire Skincare is born: Eventually in 2026, we came up with the brand name “Ayrshire Skincare,” but before we started to sell anything, I made the decision that we would revisit every product recipe such that the ingredients could be as pure and clean as possible. This had always been important to me, as was each ingredient having a plant-based origin. The other decision I made was never to use any of the nasty chemicals with unpronounceable names that we find in far too many skincare products these days. We built a new website, created new branding, and decided that we would sell everything in airless containers.
Airless Containers: We tested all of the available options, and eventually agreed to use the bottles that we do. There were several positives in this. (a) Being airless, potential contamination is eliminated. (b) The design of the containers allows that every last drop of the contents is used. Nothing is left behind in the container. (c) The container can be disassembled and all of it can go for recycling in your plastic waste.
Launch: The company got under way as Ayrshire Skincare Ltd in the spring of 2026, and from there, it has grown from strength to strength. The name reflects where we are located, and what we do. It has opened a number of opportunities to make our name known, such as we did in the recent article about us in the glossy Ayrshire Magazine.
Striving to be the best-of-the-best: We continue to strive to fine-tune our products to make them better than ever; but the active ingredients (the original essential oil recipes) that work so well, have not changed. That is our promise.
We hope that these honest answers to your questions are acceptable.
With our kindest regards
Jim and the team at Ayrshire Skincare Team
